Ron David Butler is a documentary filmmaker and photographer based in Canada and Europe.

After completing his Honours Bachelor of Arts, Ron attended Sheridan College’s Advanced Television and Film Program where he received the program's top honour: the PS Production Services Kick Start Award. Following this, Ron graduated from the Creative Documentary and Photojournalism masterclass program coordinated by Magnum Photos and Spéos International School of Photography in Paris, France.

Utilizing both film and photography in his documentary practice, Ron’s work explores themes of immigration, home and identity. His work has appeared in CBC Arts, Vice Munchies, and Eater, amongst others.

Ron is the co-founder of the production company Cûdî Giuliano Films. He recently produced and was the director of photography of the film Ezda, directed by Halime Akturk. Ezda has gone on to win the Best Short Documentary Award at the 2024 Hamburg Kurdish Film Festival, the Best Documentary Award at the 2025 Woman, Life, Freedom Global Film Festival, the Audience Award at the 2025 Olhares do Mediterrâneo Women’s Film Festival, and has screened in Toronto, Vancouver, New York City, Chicago, Berlin, Hamburg, Cologne, Amed, Vienna and Istanbul, amongst others.
